One woman can change anything. Many women can change everything. That was the belief of Sigma Delta Tau's National Founders. Since 1917, SDT has fought for the rights of women. Our visionary leaders overcame discrimination against religious minorities by boldly creating a brand new sorority. They foresaw this new fraternal organization as capable of inspiring its members into actions "worthy of the highest precepts of true womanhood, democracy and humanity." We believe our seven founding sisters would be very proud of the dynamic partnerships supported by Sigma Delta Tau today, almost a century after crafting this important vision.
Sigma Delta Tau has been empowering families through Prevent Child Abuse America for over a quarter of a century. Each SDT undergraduate chapter conducts an annual service project, educational program, and a major fund-raising event to benefit the prevention of child abuse. Over $100,000 is donated annually to PCA America to prevent the abuse and neglect of our nation's children. At Michigan State University we do a fundraiser called Puppies and Pinwheels in which we talk to local Humane Societies to bring in puppies. When people come and donate money they get a pinwheel to add to our pinwheel garden while also getting a chance to play with the puppies. All the money raised goes to PCAA. Sigma Delta Tau also supports the mission of Jewish Women International to make certain that all girls and women have the fundamental right to live in a safe home, thrive in healthy relationships and realize the full potential of their personal strengths. We created our own OPI nail polish line called "Girls Achieve Grapeness." Every year, a new shade of purple nail polish comes out and all the money raised goes towards preventing domestic violence against women across the globe. Sigma Delta Tau is proud to partner with Women for Women International, an organization supporting women in war-torn regions with financial and emotional aid, job-skills training, rights education and small business assistance so they can rebuild their lives. This association mobilizes women to change their lives by bringing a holistic approach to addressing the unique needs of women in conflict and post-conflict environments. The sisters of SDT at Michigan State raise money to sponsor a woman to help her build an education and achieve life outside of poverty. |
